NÅR NETTENE BLIR LANGE/CABIN FEVER, 2000

…the camera dive so skin close to the action, everything seems exstremely alive, spontanious and has loads of nerve and nerves-almost barock situations mixed with the painful truths of dysfunctional family relations… a stunning experience…

Per Haddal, Aftenposten.

… rarely have we felt such precence in norwegian film as in Cabin fever. Mona J. Hoel´s familydrama, stating each end of this word, has become a hillariously entertaining, scaringly realistic, and claustrofobic film that you fysically feel in your body, long after you have left the cinema. Many things can go wrong in this uncomfortably recognizable family, loads of stuff could come loose in this fragilly constructed family, and so it does, much like the small stone that creates an earthquake. The ensemble of actors does an enormeous job.The drunk father, the fasade building mother are both fantastic…

Guri Kulaas, Klassekampen.

…it stinks, it is brutal, evil and glimmers with great actingperformances. Four grown up children celebrates christmas with their families and Polish inlaws. The cabin grows tighter each second, the father is getting more and more drunk as usual. While nice neighbours sing christmas songs outside, a son is trying to suffocate his father. Merry christmas!…

Linda Rognli, Demokraten.

It is a joy to observe how a group of established theatre actors are formed into first class film actors.

…this film does not play with emotions, does not act on conflicts, this film feels honest, is honestly thought out, honestly meant, honestly articulated, honestly made…the scenens worked out with a concious use of light and shadow…

Mona J. Hoel gives the actors a huge space, and thank God for this, but an intelligent and careful director always does. We could say, a succsessful Norwegian dogma film, we rather say, a succsessful, engaging Norwegian film that will stir up many emotions, create thoughts that will stick with you for al olong time…

Knut Holt, Fedrelandsvennen

…with a witty glim, satiric humour, this story is so well told, I have never seen it before in any Norwegian film and as if that is not enough, finally we got the norwegian film where all the actors and I mean all, have thought film and not theatre in front of the camera. It is wonderfully solved…I will tell you, I could not sit still for one second…I don´t think this film will win the Oscar, but I am sure it will take loads of prizes home.

Per Ivar Henriksbø, Gulbrandsdølen

…this film is like a mental preparation for the ritual celebration we all have to go through in about a months time…use it as a rehearsal…

as christmas eve goes by and the alcohol starts giving it´s effect, the dead bodies start falling out of the cupboards, what is supposed to be a family idyl turn out to be hiding an emotional living hell…and everything turns into the tragic comic…Cabin fever is the best norwegian film for a long time. It is rare to see such acting as we see in this film. You smply feel you are in there in the family and conflict since everyone will recognize something in all of this characters, since all the personal elements are universal. Not many filmmakers could do this. Mona J. Hoe has in her fantastic script, energetic directing without any dead points.

Geir Kvarmsvåg, Filmmagasinet.

…rarely have we witnessed family fasades break up to such an extent as they do in Cabin fever.  The ideal immage of a big western family falls to pieces and becomes a crater of broken emotions. IOt nails you to your seat and keeps you stuck until the end and although it is painful, it is worth it´s prize.
